Jonathan Maddalena - Craig Fey Memorial Award Recipient

It should come as no surprise that this year’s recipient encompasses and embodies, to its fullest, the traits that this award represents on-and-off the football field. He is dedicated, considerate, hard-working and sincere. He’s a motivator, comrade and leader; but most of all, he is humble, respected, and loved by his peers.

This player’s love for the game of football is as obvious to anyone as is his very existence. He is strong…not only physically, but strong-willed; he knows no boundaries and his loyalty to his teammates and coaches is unparalleled.

Injuries don’t stop this player or slow him down either. It took head surgery to keep him off the playing field last year, but it proved to be just another force he would have to overpower and defeat. During the few times that he was unable to take the field, that didn’t keep him away from the game or his teammates. Instead, he seized the opportunity to contribute by coaching and offering advice to his defensive teammates from the sidelines.

Although this award does not consider as part of its criteria a player’s skill or talent, to not mention his achievements and successes at this time would undermine his commitment over the years. This player joined the North Edmonton Minor Football Association in 2004 at the Peewee level and has been an unwavering Seahawk since. His commitment and dedication to this sport is evidenced by the 6 awards he has amassed over that time period with the Seahawks: ‘MVP’, ‘Top Rookie’, and 4-time ‘Best Defensive Player’. This player also participates in high school football with the Archbishop O’Leary Spartans, where in 2008 he was awarded ‘Rookie of the Year’ and just a few weeks ago was the recipient of the ‘Spartan Attitude’ award.

I am proud and it has been my privilege, to speak of and describe to you such a respectable, reputable and deserving young man.

This year’s recipient of the Craig Fey Memorial Award is…Jonathan Maddalena.

A MESSAGE TO OUR PARENTS, FRIENDS & FAMILIES…OUR HATS ARE OFF TO YOU!

As another Midget football season comes to an end, the Edmonton Seahawks Midget Staff and Executive would like to take this opportunity to say “THANK YOU” for your support throughout this past season.

Thank you for sitting in the cold, rain, snow, and wind to support our players. Your involvement in your child’s decision and commitment to play football was paramount and is to be commended.

Thank you in advance for your upcoming volunteer efforts supporting the Edmonton Seahawks football club and the children of North Edmonton.

Thank you for realizing that football is a high-paced, contact sport where injuries occur and bumps and bruises are inevitable, and for icing and applying tender loving care those bumps and bruises while keeping your player’s self-esteem in check.

Football is fun, but through a lot of hard work and commitment it can also be rewarding and fulfilling…for everyone involved; “work hard and good things will happen.”

We hope the memories and friendships shaped will remain with you and your children, our players, for years to come. THANK YOU!
