This year started off a little rocky, with the Seahawks going 0-5 to start the season. Though the record wasn’t great, the scores didn’t tell the whole story. Despite the fact they were losing, the team was getting better each week, working hard at practice to clean up the few minor issues that had cost them the game the week before. The Seahawks managed to go 2-1 in the remaining three games of the season putting them into the tier 2 playoffs. This young, inexperienced group of kids,  counted out by many, was peaking at the right time. They won the semi-final game against the Leduc Wildcats19-6, and the league final game against the Spruce Grove Cougars 25-0, to take the Tier 2 championship. With that win the team is off to represent the Seahawks in the Football Alberta Tier 2 Provincial championships this Saturday in Fort Saskatchewan.

This team embodied grit and determination. They did not have an easy season. There were challenges at every game. This was a season where they won a few games and were defeated in more. It was a season of lessons every player needs to learn and are often not learned unless adversity is staring them in the face. Dedication, perseverance, hard work, sportsmanship and most importantly humility. These kids practice and play in all weather conditions. Heat, cold, rain, sun, sleet, snow, they show up ready. They practice on an unmarked grass field that is shared with cricket players. The only time they see an actual football field is on game day. They worked hard and won the tier 2 championship, an award this team has not seen since approximately 1996. Well done team. Well done! Good luck this weekend at provincials!
